Bins in Bath (No.8)

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

February 2019 ♪♪♪

The sightseeing area of Bath (Somerset, UK) is located in South West of England. I went to Bath Spa from Cardiff Central by train; it took about one hour. At first, I climbed a hill, named Alexandra Park. The park overlooks the entire town, but it was a little bit of a hard exercise for me. There are some couples not only male and female but also a lady and her dog. Then, I saw, by chance, a bin, as if looking down the city, which was separated into three openings, for example drink cans & plastic bottles. It was the first time for me to find a bin with no ashtray in Britain.

Bath Abbey (Old Orchard Street, Bath) was founded in the 7th century (the picture of above left). It is marvelously designed, and I found a rubbish bin nearby its entrance. It’s the brand of "BigBelly Solar". The functions were shown in the former issue of Chester, please find it there. Also, I saw, by chance, some litter bins of "BigBelly" at nearby Pulteney Bridge. Thus I guess, this city has a lot of money for investing in recycling.

Royal Crescent (Brock Street & Upper Church Street, Bath) has a very beautiful huge green garden. We can see a part of its history inside which is opened as a museum. After exploring inside of the museum, I walked to the tourist spot of The Roman Baths and spent around 30 minutes there. On the way, I found a different type of litter bin which has separation for three kinds of rubbishes: plastic bottles & cans, general waste, newspapers & magazines. Into which slot shall I dispose a paper waste?

There are so many tourists in The Roman Baths (York Street, Bath) because of the weekend. I did not expect to find any bins there, but I found some simple designed bins inside of the historic building (please see below pictures). They were blink-and-you'll-miss-it set up so as not to interfere with the interesting architectural features at the Roman Baths.

When I was not busy observing bins, I was devouring the regional cuisines. During our visit to Bath, we had lovely dishes at The Real Italian Pizza (BA1 1NG). The crust was immensely flavoury and you do not need to have too much dominating sauce and toppings. If you favour ethnic foods, I recommend some other restaurants, for example, Salathai Restaurant (BA1 1LA) or Noodle Bath (BA1 1EN).

See you soon in the next issue!
